Are You Renting Your House Temporarily?

Posted on: 27 June 2018

Are you going to be away from your home for a long period of time? Perhaps your company has transferred you, but you know you will be returning to your previous position after a certain job has been completed. Or, it might be that you are retired and you have decided to go by yourself, or with your spouse, to live in a foreign country for awhile, maybe even to serve an extended mission for your church. You are more than likely having different emotions regarding this temporary relocation. On one hand, you might be excited about the experiences you'll be having. On the other hand, getting your house ready for renters might seem a bit overwhelming. From purchasing plastic storage bins to arranging to rent a storage unit, here are some ideas that might help.

What Will You Leave Out? - You might be leaving furniture out for your renters to use. Also, kitchen things like everyday plates, baking equipment, and other items that you won't be taking with you because you don't want to bother with them, or because it will just be more simple to buy basic needs once you get to your temporary destination. That would just leave things like clothing that you won't be using, and other items that you just plain don't want the renters to use, say collectibles that might break. Consider buying plastic storage bins which can be used to keep items safe that you won't be taking with you. This would probably be a great time for you to go through your house with the idea of getting rid of things you no longer want or need.

Where Will You Store Things? - Keep in mind that your renters will more than likely be using things like coat closets, linen closets, and even the attic to store their personal belongings. Have you considered renting a storage unit where you can keep all of the personal items you're not taking with you? Renting a storage facility is more than likely a lot more affordable than you thought it might be. In addition, you'll have the peace of mind that your belongings are being stored in a temperature-controlled unit and that there will be 24-hour and 365-day safety being provided for your things. Consider making a detailed list of things that you have placed in storage, and mark the plastic bins with what's in them, too.
