Storing Your Car Safely And Properly

If you have a vehicle you want to put in car storage and you want it to run again when it is time to take it out, there are some things that you should do to protect it. Leaving a car in storage for a long period of time can have a devastating effect on some of the parts of the car.if you do not prepare it properly. Here are a few things you might want to consider when putting your car into storage.
Get The Car Off The Ground
One thing you can do to extend the life of the tires that are on the car is to get the weight off them. If you have the original tires on the car, they can form flat spots on them if they are allowed to sit in one spot with the weight of the entire car on them. If the tires are bias ply tires, they are even more prone to flat spotting because of the way they were built so many years ago. Jack the car up until the weight of the car is off the tires and place jack stands under the frame to support it while it is being stored.
Stabalize The Gasoline
Gas is not something a lot of people consider when it comes to storing a car. Truth is, anything with a motor should be stored with gas in it but the gas needs to be treated with a stabilizer to keep it from breaking down over time. Untreated gas will last a few months but even storing your car for the winter can be long enough for the gas to go bad. The gas can eat at the seals and rubber fuel lines on the car as well as gumming up the carburetor, but the stabilizer will help keep that from happening. If you store it without a fuel stabilizer, plan of draining and replacing the fuel in the car when you get it out of storage.
Protect The Paint
If the car has original paint on it and you want to keep it, wash the car, dry it completely, then wax the car with a good quality car wax. The wax will help protect the paint from damage and make the car easier to clean up when it comes out of storage. You can also put a car cover on the car to help protect the car's paint as well. Take the time to put the car away properly, and when you are ready to get it out of storage, it will be ready to run and drive just like it did before it was put away.
